Commissioning is the final technical stage before a 10kV power substation enters normal operation. It confirms that the equipment has been installed correctly and that protection, control, and switching functions operate as designed.
Factory testing is important, but site commissioning is still necessary because transportation, installation, and field wiring may affect equipment performance.

The commissioning team should inspect:
Equipment condition and alignment
Cable and busbar connections
Grounding conductors
Mechanical fasteners
Enclosure sealing
Interlocking mechanisms
Labels and warning signs
Transformer ventilation or oil level
Typical electrical tests may include:
Insulation-resistance testing
Contact-resistance testing
Transformer ratio testing
Winding-resistance testing
Cable testing
Circuit-breaker timing
Current-transformer polarity checks
Grounding-system measurement
Relay settings should match the approved protection study. Testing should confirm alarm signals, trip commands, event recording, and communication functions.
The full operating sequence should be checked, including breaker opening and closing, local and remote control, emergency trips, interlocks, status indications, and SCADA communication.
Test reports, wiring diagrams, protection settings, equipment certificates, and operating instructions should be completed before energization.
A structured commissioning process reduces start-up risk and helps prevent early equipment failure. It confirms that the 10kV substation is mechanically complete, electrically safe, and ready for reliable operation.
